The increasing acceptance of roof cooling by architects, engineers and building managers testifies to the fact that it meets a need better than other methods of comparable cost. That need is to neutralize the discomfort and slowing down of production during hot summer weather and to reduce the high cost of air conditioning by removing the solar roof load.

Discomfort is caused by excess heat from various sources, such as factory processes, electric lights and motors, human occupancy, etc., but in most cases mainly from solar heat building up in the roof structure, making a heat radiator out of the ceiling, as well as causing the room temperature to rise ten degrees or more. About half the body heat is dissipated by radiation to cooler surfaces so that a cool ceiling is of first importance. A dry roof will show temperatures of 135’ to 160’. The right kind of roof cooling will bring this down to 85’ or 90’ with a corresponding ceiling temperature well below body temperature or around 87’. Insulation under the roof will obstruct the inflow of heat, but it also obstructs its outflow; it does not prevent the build-up of heat in the roof structure and in any case tends to increase the roof surface temperature to the detriment of the roofing materials.

The most practical and effective means of maintaining "Comfort Zone" conditions, other than by air conditioning, is to get rid of the solar roof load with an automatically controlled roof spray system which absorbs the solar energy before it can penetrate into the building and without waste of water. The effect of a good evaporative roof cooling system is felt both in the elimination of ceiling radiation and the blanket of warm air under the roof, as well as in the lowering of air temperature. The testimony of numerous users of roof spray systems indicates a reduction of air temperature of ten degrees or more below what it would be under a dry roof. Roof cooling pays for itself through increased production. Fan-jet requires a minimum of maintenance.

The Fan-jet System was developed by and is the exclusive patented product of Muellermist Irrigation Company. It is sold only through authorized representatives, any of whom will be glad to supply additional details and estimates without obligation. E-Mail or call today!

What Evaporative Roof Cooling Does

  1. Reduces roof surface temperatures 40 to 60 degrees.
  2. Makes ceiling a cooling panel instead of a heat radiator.
  3. Stops build-up of heat in roof structure.
  4. Reduces inside temperature and improves working conditions.
  5. Eliminates radiant heat and provides low cost cooling for non air conditioned buildings.
  6. It will reduce the operating cost of air conditioning in many cases by as much as 25%.
  7. In new buildings it also reduces the initial capital cost of air conditioning system.
  8. The intermittent misting of water uses approximately one gallon per 100 sq. ft. per hour.
  9. Prolongs life of roof by holding it at uniform temperature that eliminates thermal solar shock.
